Bruno Fernandes has been instrumental in Manchester United's resurgence under interim manager Michael Carrick, delivering a string of man-of-the-match performances that have silenced his detractors. The Portuguese midfielder scored his 106th goal for the club in a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth, adding to his impressive tally of 16 assists this Premier League season—double that of his nearest rival, Rayan Cherki.
Fernandes reached a milestone of 100 assists for United in a 3-1 win over Aston Villa, becoming the third player in the Premier League era to achieve 100 goals and 100 assists for the club. He also broke David Beckham's record for assists in a Premier League season, surpassing the 15 set in 1999-2000. His goal against Bournemouth moved him to 19th on United's all-time scoring list, ahead of legends like Beckham and Eric Cantona.
Despite previous struggles under Ruben Amorim and Erik ten Hag, Fernandes has thrived under Carrick, who took over in January. The team has won eight of 11 games since then, climbing from 15th place to contention for Champions League qualification. Fernandes credits the team's collective effort but acknowledges his own improved decision-making and ball retention.
While his status as a United legend is secure, Fernandes faced criticism during the club's downturn, particularly after two Europa League final defeats. However, his current form—creating 101 chances in 28 appearances—has reaffirmed his value. He remains focused on team success over personal records, a trait that earned him the captaincy.
