Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has dismissed a fan's viral haircut challenge, insisting he is only concerned with his own hairstyle. Superfan Frank Ilett, known as The United Strand on social media, vowed not to cut his hair until the Red Devils won five consecutive matches.
United are now just one victory away from achieving that feat after beating Manchester City, Arsenal, Fulham and Tottenham under interim boss Michael Carrick. However, Fernandes seemed unaware of the challenge when asked about it. 'I need to book for myself, I don't look at other people. I don't look if they need to go to the hairdresser or not, that is not important for me,' he said.
Despite his response, the challenge has been discussed in the dressing room. A source told The Sun: 'The players are really enjoying their recent upturn in fortune... They are well aware of Frank because he pops up on their social media. Some of them were having a laugh and a joke and said: ‘Come on, let’s give this guy a haircut.’'
Ilett, meanwhile, is optimistic about finally visiting the barber. 'Carrick is at the wheel, this hair is going soon,' he said after the Tottenham win. He previously hinted he wanted the haircut at Old Trafford. 'But I want to do the haircut at Old Trafford, or at least somewhere nearby. Either way, there's plenty of time to plan it!'
Fernandes insisted the team must maintain their focus. 'If you don't win the next one and the next one you will get back into the same place where you don't feel comfortable... The main focus is the next game, it's four wins in a row, this one is nice, but we need to make it five now,' he said.
