Bruno Fernandes's place in the Manchester United starting line-up is in doubt for today's Premier League meeting with Bournemouth after he publicly criticised manager Michael Carrick's tactics following the club's Champions League defeat by Como.
United host the Cherries at 2pm this afternoon with Carrick under increasing pressure after a run of seven games without a win across all competitions. The manager must decide whether to retain his captain in the starting XI after Fernandes questioned the coaching staff's tactical approach in Wednesday's 4-1 defeat in Italy.
Fernandes suggested United needed to press opponents more aggressively, and said the decision not to adopt a man-to-man pressing system was down to the coaching staff. Carrick has not confirmed whether the midfielder will retain his place, but Fernandes is not expected to be dropped or stripped of the captaincy.
Carrick refuses to rule out dropping captain
Speaking ahead of Sunday's game, Carrick refused to rule out dropping his captain. Asked about the possibility, he told reporters: "The most important thing for me is the team, the squad and dynamics in the squad."
"It's about the football club. I'll always do what is best for the football club."
Injury concerns and team news
United are dealing with several injury concerns, with Kobbie Mainoo, Luke Shaw, Benjamin Sesko, Patrick Dorgu and Manuel Ugarte expected to miss out. Lisandro Martinez and Marcus Rashford are also doubts.
Carrick's starting line-up will be confirmed by the club at 12.45pm GMT.
