Brundle backs Hamilton for F1 wins with Ferrari

Martin Brundle has backed Lewis Hamilton to win Formula 1 races this season, provided Ferrari make a significant improvement at the upcoming Miami Grand Prix. Speaking on the Sky Sports F1 Show podcast, the former driver and pundit noted that Hamilton appears more comfortable with the current generation of cars compared to the ground-effect era from 2022 to 2025.

Hamilton's Form and Ferrari's Progress

Hamilton, now 41, secured his first podium with Ferrari at the Chinese Grand Prix, the second round of the season. He currently sits fourth in the drivers' championship, eight points behind teammate Charles Leclerc and 31 adrift of championship leader Kimi Antonelli. Mercedes have dominated the opening three rounds, but Ferrari have emerged as their closest challengers.

Brundle believes Hamilton's mood and driving style are better suited to the new regulations. "Lewis clearly enjoys these cars much more," Brundle said. "Ferrari is more competitive and I think again will make a big step for Miami. Lewis obviously prefers this type of car to the seasons we had with the ground-effect cars that were smashing against the ground and were quite brutal things, it didn't seem to suit his style."

The Championship Battle

Brundle also highlighted the depth of talent in the field, suggesting that up to eight drivers could contend for the world championship. This includes pairs from McLaren (Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri) and Red Bull (Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar). "This is going to ebb and flow. I see teams leapfrogging others with some upgrades because there is so much upside potential with these cars," he added.

With tweaks to the regulations announced last week, the pack could close up further, making the Miami Grand Prix a pivotal moment in the season. Brundle concluded: "If there's a sniff of a victory, I think Lewis is still very much capable of taking that."
