Hull City have terminated the contract of defender Brandon Williams by mutual consent, allowing the former Manchester United youngster to leave the MKM Stadium. The 25-year-old joined the Tigers on a one-year deal in the summer after a trial period but struggled to reach the required fitness levels for Championship football.
Williams made just one league appearance for Hull, a five-minute cameo in a 3-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in August. He has been sidelined with a calf problem in recent weeks and was last in a matchday squad on November 25. His only other outings came for the Under-21s in an effort to build match sharpness.
Manager Sergej Jakirovic had hoped to give Williams a chance to revive his career after the player received a suspended jail sentence for a serious driving offence in the summer. However, the move did not work out for either party.
Williams’ departure frees up squad space for Hull to strengthen during the transfer window. The club have already brought in Paddy McNair, Kieran Dowell, Yu Hirakawa, Toby Collyer, and Lewis Koumas. James Furlong is expected to leave for League Two before Monday’s deadline, while discussions continue over David Akintola.
