Don Hutchison has urged Scotland boss Sebastien Pocognoli to make Kieron Bowie his new permanent number nine. The 24-year-old striker currently plays in Serie A with Sassuolo and scored on his first start for the national team in a 2-0 win over North Macedonia earlier this month. Bowie was then dropped for the Scots' Hampden defeat to Slovenia three days later.
Hutchison's Verdict on Bowie
Hutchison, who earned 26 caps for Scotland, watches the frontman regularly as a co-commentator for TNT Sports' coverage of Italy's top flight. He is convinced that the former Hibs kid is the real deal and believes he is better than the likes of Che Adams, Oli McBurnie and Robbie Ure, who are also fighting for the number nine jersey.
He also compared him to £45 million hit-man Liam Delap, who moved from Chelsea to Nottingham Forest in the summer.
Comparison to Liam Delap
Hutchison told Record Sport: "Bowie has been in and out of the side at Sassuolo but he's scored goals in Italy. When I look at his profile as a number nine, he's better than any striker Scotland have at the minute. Adams is a good runner but I think Bowie is ahead of them all. He needs to be given time but I like what I see in him. He reminds me of Liam Delap at Nottingham Forest, who was at Chelsea. When you look at how he can run, physically, Bowie is the same. If I'm the Scotland manager, I'm looking at him as my number nine and I'm giving him a run of games. He deserves that and I think he's good enough."
Don Hutchison was speaking on behalf of BetBrain.
