Ben White is set to miss the remainder of Arsenal's season after sustaining a ligament injury in his right knee. The defender, who was forced off during Arsenal's 1-0 victory at West Ham on Sunday, is believed to have suffered medial collateral ligament damage. This injury will keep him sidelined for the Premier League matches against Burnley and Crystal Palace, as well as the Champions League final against Paris Saint-Germain.
Defensive Concerns for Arsenal
White's absence leaves Arsenal with a significant problem at right back during a crucial period in May, with the club aiming to secure both domestic and European glory. Jurrien Timber, another defensive option, is also currently injured, compounding the Gunners' defensive woes.
Gary Neville's Controversial Comments
The incident drew unusual remarks from co-commentator Gary Neville on Sky Sports, who suggested that White's injury was self-inflicted due to a weak challenge. Neville stated: "Ben White just hangs his leg there. It's poor. He's got to be stronger than that. He's hurt himself there. That's easily prevented if you go in strong and with a real sturdy block. He's hung his leg out in pretty weak fashion, you're asking for trouble."
White received treatment from Arsenal's medical staff after going down, and further assessments have now confirmed the severity of the injury. More updates are expected as the club prepares for the final stretch of the season.
