Bellingham hails Kane as England's greatest ever player

Jude Bellingham has declared Harry Kane “the best player to have worn the shirt” after another stunning England performance on a record-equalling night for the striker.

The Bayern Munich ace further etched his name into Three Lions history as he equalled Peter Shilton’s record for the most appearances for his country when he was named in the starting line-up for the Nations League game against the Czech Republic.

Kane's record-equalling night

Kane, winning his 125th cap, was involved in all three goals in the routine win, scoring twice and coming up with an assist as his stunning year continued - with the Ballon d'Or firmly in his sights.

Kane's exploits with England for more than a decade have gradually put him in the conversation regarding who is England's greatest ever player. The striker has never won an international major honour, but that hasn't stopped Bellingham putting him on top of the list.

Bellingham's praise

The Real Madrid ace told ITV: “I can only talk from my perspective and first and foremost he is an unbelievable human being. As a captain, as a man, he looks after every single person. He's the one to take responsibility off the pitch.

“And on the pitch he's the best England player to have worn the shirt. It's an honour to play with him. He's playing at a level that is unmatched. He's scoring goals for fun, he's dropping deep and playing passes in behind and contributing, making tackles and everything. He's only getting better.”

Kane's prolific record

Kane already sits as, far and away, the most prolific Englishman in history. His total of 91 goals exceeds Wayne Rooney, who sits second with 53, as he threatens to set a total that will never be caught.

The 33-year-old's goalscoring exploits saw him win the World Cup Golden Boot in 2018 and he's been part of the most consistent England side in decades. Despite falling short of lifting the trophy, Kane has played for England in two major tournament finals and two semi-finals.

When Thomas Tuchel was asked for his opinion on Kane’s performance, he replied with a smile: “It's what he does. I don’t take it for granted. He is just exceptional every single match. It’s difficult to find words for him.”

Kane could become the first Englishman in 25 years to win the Ballon d'Or if he's successful later this year. That would make him just the fifth England player to achieve the feat.
