The BBC has unveiled its roster of presenters, pundits, and co-commentators for this summer's World Cup, set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The broadcaster will air 54 matches from the tournament, featuring a host of prominent football figures.
Star-Studded Punditry Team
Alongside familiar faces such as Alan Shearer, Micah Richards, Wayne Rooney, and Joe Hart, the BBC has enlisted former Brentford and Tottenham manager Thomas Frank. Frank previously served as a pundit for the channel during Euro 2024 and will be joined by Theo Walcott, Sue Smith, Ellen White, Conor Coady, and Gael Clichy.
However, the most notable additions are former Premier League stars Olivier Giroud, Cesar Azpilicueta, Benni McCarthy, and Lucas Leiva. This quartet is expected to bring global insight and an international perspective to the coverage.
Mark Chapman, Kelly Cates, Gabby Logan, and Alex Scott will serve as presenters throughout the tournament.
Innovative Coverage Plans
BBC Director of Sport Alex Kay-Jelski commented: "The BBC is turning the biggest World Cup in history into the most iconic one yet. We're bringing fans closer to every match, every moment, and every story than ever before."
He added: "Sport truly unites people like nothing else, so we can't wait for fans to enjoy not just the live matches with us but an abundance of football content, all day, every day across our platforms."
In a groundbreaking move, the BBC will broadcast the build-up and first ten minutes of select major matches on YouTube and TikTok. Additionally, the channel has unveiled a new immersive studio in Salford designed to transport viewers to the 16 host cities.
Due to high travel and accommodation costs around the tournament, the BBC will base its pundits and commentators at its Salford headquarters until the quarter-final stage.
Match Coverage Details
All 104 World Cup matches will be available on free-to-air television in the UK, split between the BBC and ITV. ITV will broadcast England's first and final group matches against Croatia and Panama, respectively, while the BBC will show the second group match against Ghana.
The BBC will also air the round of 32, round of 16, and semi-final ties if England progresses that far. ITV will have the quarter-final, and both channels are set to broadcast the final.
