BBC Scotland host Martin Geissler has criticised a minority of travelling Hearts supporters for their "grim" songbook during Saturday's match at Celtic Park, where the away side suffered a heavy 7-1 defeat.
Geissler, a Hearts fan himself, took to social media to condemn what he described as "excruciating and humiliating songs" coming from the away end. He wrote: "Some grim songs coming out of the Hearts support today. I was there, it was excruciating and humiliating. A small, small section of our support as a whole but vocal and well represented today. Proud to support the club I've always loved but get that stuff out. It's awful."
Heavy Defeat at Parkhead
The match marked Hearts' first return to Celtic Park since last season's dramatic title showdown on the final day. Wouter Vrancken's side were overwhelmed, with Celtic racing into a 5-0 lead before half-time, prompting many supporters to head for the exits early.
Geissler's comments have drawn backing from both Hearts and Celtic fans alike. One supporter wrote: "Fair play, Martin. I was in the main stand, next to the Hearts supporters. I realise that some of the stuff our lot come out with can be unpalatable. We all must do better."
Support for Geissler's Stance
Another social media user remarked: "My dad (81) is a lifelong Jambo and in the FOH, he wrote to the club after a game at Fir Park a couple of years ago to highlight how bad the issue is. Ann Budge was active at the time to set the expectations. Hopefully Calum Paterson will do the same. There's no need."
A further response stated: "Well called out Martin. Almost all clubs have their share of 'fans' who embarrass their club. There are plenty of decent football fans out there who are sick of them. Tough day for the Jambos today, but you'll bounce back. Your owner has a solid strategy."
