Harry Kane Dashes Liverpool Hopes with German Lessons

Harry Kane has poured cold water on speculation linking him with a move to Liverpool after a video emerged of the striker practising his German. The England captain, who joined Bayern Munich from Tottenham Hotspur in 2023, is seen in a club-released video undergoing an individual language lesson, underlining his commitment to settling in Germany.

Kane, 31, takes German classes multiple times a week and has scored 76 goals in 82 appearances for Bayern. Despite the club finishing as runners-up to Bayer Leverkusen last season, Kane is on course for his first league title under manager Vincent Kompany. His contract runs until 2027, and he has a release clause reportedly worth £67 million, which he must activate himself—something he has so far declined to do.

Recent weeks had seen Kane linked with a return to the Premier League, with Liverpool touted as a potential destination. However, the striker offered little encouragement, stating last month: "What I can say is that I'm very happy at FC Bayern. No comment on the clause." The clause is said to drop to £54 million next January, but Kane's actions suggest he is focused on his Bundesliga career.

Kane believes his move to Bayern has enhanced his reputation and performance levels. "Just being at a club like Bayern Munich has helped push me on even more," he said. "I feel like I've definitely got better, I've improved, and maybe the aura of me as a player is a bit more respected than what it has been in the past."

Despite Kane's apparent contentment, former Newcastle striker Alan Shearer has suggested he could still return to England to challenge the Premier League all-time scoring record. "Liverpool will be looking for a centre-forward in the summer, I don't doubt that, and Harry Kane would be a great option for them," Shearer told Betfair. "Whether Harry decides to stay in Germany or come back, he'll have options."
