Chelsea are set to sell Nicolas Jackson permanently after Bayern Munich confirmed they will not trigger the permanent transfer option in his loan deal. The German champions paid around £14 million to sign the Senegal striker on a season-long loan last summer, with a £56 million permanent clause contingent on appearances.
Jackson started just ten Bundesliga games under Vincent Kompany, scoring seven goals, which fell short of the required threshold to activate the deal. Bayern sporting director Max Eberl confirmed: 'We will not trigger the option for Nicolas Jackson.' The 24-year-old will now return to Stamford Bridge.
Jackson joined Chelsea in 2023 from Villarreal for £32 million, scoring 30 goals in 81 appearances. However, after a strong first season, his form dipped, and he left last summer following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap. Chelsea initially blocked his move to Bayern after an early injury to Delap, but Jackson was already in Munich and refused to return.
Despite Jackson being open to reviving his career at Chelsea, the club intends to cash in. Newcastle United, who expressed interest last summer, have placed him on their list of targets after their own strikers struggled. Tottenham and AC Milan were also previously linked. Former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel said Jackson's absence has been felt this season, adding: 'We are missing Nicolas Jackson. What he gave us, no striker has given us.'
