Bayern Munich open £75m Anthony Gordon transfer talks

Bayern Munich have opened talks with Newcastle United to discuss a potential £75 million deal for winger Anthony Gordon. The 25-year-old England international is open to leaving St James' Park this summer, and Newcastle are prepared to listen to offers.

Gordon's future on the line

Gordon is keen to resolve his future before the World Cup, which begins in June. Arsenal have long been interested, but Bayern have made the first move. According to Sky Sports, the German champions—who secured the Bundesliga title last month and are chasing a domestic double—have a good relationship with Newcastle's hierarchy, which could smooth negotiations.

It is also reported that two of Gordon's teammates, Sandro Tonali and Tino Livramento, could leave Newcastle during the summer transfer window. Tonali has been linked with Manchester United.

Newcastle's valuation

Newcastle value Gordon at £75 million, though Bayern are believed to be targeting a £55 million fee. The Magpies rejected an approach from Liverpool in 2024 before handing Gordon a long-term contract that runs until 2030.

Manager Eddie Howe has made it clear he wants only committed players. "I discuss things with players all the time," Howe said after a 2-1 loss to Bournemouth in April. "The biggest thing I look for is commitment to training. I'm not going to play any player if I don't feel they're 100 per cent committed to the club."

Gordon's season in numbers

Gordon has had an indifferent Premier League campaign, but in the Champions League only Harry Kane and Kylian Mbappe have scored more than his 10 goals this season. That is despite Newcastle being thrashed 8-3 on aggregate by Barcelona in the round of 16.

The former Everton star is expected to feature for England at the World Cup, having established himself under Thomas Tuchel. He could start when the Three Lions begin their campaign against Croatia on June 17.
