Barcelona have registered six new signings, including Marcus Rashford, ahead of their La Liga opener against Mallorca on Sunday. The club had faced delays due to strict financial fair play rules, but managed to clear the paperwork in time. Rashford, who joined on a free transfer from Manchester United, is expected to provide cover across the front line.
The 27-year-old England international said he was calm about the registration process, trusting the club to resolve it. Barcelona had long admired Rashford and saw him as a more affordable alternative to Athletic Club's Nico Williams, whose €58m buyout clause they could not guarantee to meet.
Barcelona also registered goalkeeper Joan García, signed for €25m from Espanyol, and Wojciech Szczesny, who came out of retirement. The club faced a goalkeeper crisis after Marc-André ter Stegen's injury, but his long-term absence allowed Barcelona to use 80% of his salary to register García. Ter Stegen initially refused to release his medical details but eventually backed down.
Other English players in La Liga this season include Trent Alexander-Arnold at Real Madrid, Conor Gallagher at Atlético Madrid, and Oviemuno Ejaria at Real Oviedo. Tyrhys Dolan has joined Espanyol. The league's title race features several English talents, with Real Madrid spending €200m in the summer transfer window.
