Baleba's Man United debut date revealed after £70m move

Carlos Baleba could make his Manchester United debut on Sunday, September 20, when the Reds travel to Fulham in the Premier League, after completing his £70m transfer from Brighton and Hove Albion this week.

The 22-year-old defensive midfielder signed a five-year deal with United, including an option to add a further year, becoming the club's third midfielder addition of the summer. United were initially quoted in excess of £100m for Baleba last summer but waited 12 months and secured him for an initial £65m fee, with a further £5m in add-ons.

Injury delays start at Old Trafford

Baleba's debut will not come this weekend, as he picked up an ankle ligament injury during pre-season at Brighton, which ruled him out of Sunday's 4-0 victory over Aston Villa. It is understood he could be back in mid-September, making the Fulham fixture an optimistic target for his first appearance.

Following his move, Baleba said: "It is an incredible feeling to join the club of my dreams. Playing at Old Trafford is always special but the opportunity to do so as a Manchester United player will be a real honour."

International break and potential return

United's trip to Fulham is their last fixture before the extended three-week international break, during which Baleba's Cameroon are scheduled to face Comoros and Congo in Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying. Depending on his recovery, he could play in one or both of those fixtures before returning to Carrington, or he could be left out to ensure full fitness.

If Baleba does not make his debut against Fulham, he would be expected to feature for the first time when United host Tottenham on Saturday, October 10.
