Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba has played down speculation linking him with a move to Manchester United, insisting he is focused solely on working hard and improving his game. The 21-year-old Cameroon international has been touted as a target for the Red Devils, who are reportedly seeking a central midfielder this summer.
Speaking last year amid interest from other Premier League clubs, Baleba emphasised his commitment to Brighton rather than getting caught up in transfer talk. 'I don't really think like that: playing for two or three years and then leaving. Me? I just work,' he told Sky Sports. 'If there are big clubs who want me, it's not something that worries me or gets me excited.'
United have been linked with a move for Baleba, with intermediaries reportedly approaching Brighton to discuss a potential deal. However, Brighton chief Paul Barber has denied such claims, labelling them 'speculation', while The Athletic reports the Seagulls have no intention of selling the midfielder this summer.
Baleba, who joined Brighton in 2023 following the departures of Alexis Mac Allister and Moises Caicedo, has made 77 appearances for the club across all competitions. Rio Ferdinand has previously urged United to prioritise signing the midfielder, describing him as someone who can 'do it all'.
Despite reported interest, Baleba remains grounded. 'I don't know if I'm going to be the star or the next big thing,' he said. 'I just prefer getting my head down and working on the pitch.'
