Aston Villa Crush Nottingham Forest 4-0 to Reach Europa League Final
Aston Villa 4-0 Forest: Villa Reach Europa League Final

Aston Villa produced a stunning second-leg performance to defeat Nottingham Forest 4-0 at Villa Park, securing a 4-1 aggregate victory and a place in the Europa League final against Freiburg in Istanbul.

John McGinn was the hero, scoring twice in the second half to cap a dominant display from Unai Emery's side. The win marked Villa's first European final since 1982.

First Half Dominance

Villa started brightly, knowing they needed to overturn a 1-0 deficit from the first leg. Ollie Watkins broke the deadlock in the 36th minute, finishing coolly after a clever pass from Morgan Rogers. The goal brought the tie level on aggregate and ignited the home crowd.

Despite Forest's attempts to respond, Villa's defence held firm, and the teams went into half-time with Villa leading 1-0 on the night.

Second Half Surge

The second half belonged entirely to Villa. In the 58th minute, Emiliano Buendia converted a penalty after a handball from Nikola Milenkovic, giving Villa a 2-0 lead on the night and a 2-1 aggregate advantage.

McGinn then took centre stage. In the 77th minute, he collected a long ball from Watkins and unleashed a superb finish past Forest goalkeeper Stefan Ortega. Just three minutes later, he struck again, this time latching onto a pass from Rogers and firing home to make it 4-0.

Forest Unable to Respond

Nottingham Forest, missing the injured Morgan Gibbs-White for much of the match, struggled to create meaningful chances. Their best opportunity came from Chris Wood, but his effort was ruled offside. Forest manager Vitor Pereira made several changes but could not stem the tide.

Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez was rarely tested, as his defence limited Forest to just two attempts all night.

Emery's Europa League Mastery

Unai Emery, now in his sixth Europa League final, praised his team's performance. 'We showed great character and quality,' he said. 'The players executed the game plan perfectly.'

Watkins echoed the sentiment: 'After the first leg, we knew we had to be more aggressive. The manager prepared us brilliantly.'

Villa will now face Freiburg, who advanced despite a 3-1 loss to Braga, winning 4-3 on aggregate. The final will be held at the Ataturk Olympic Stadium in Istanbul.

The victory also keeps Villa in contention for a Champions League place through their league position, adding further incentive to their remarkable season.
