Ashley Young, the former Manchester United and England winger, has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 40. The announcement brings an end to a distinguished 23-year career that saw him play for several top clubs and represent his country on the international stage.
A Stellar Career Spanning Two Decades
Young began his professional journey at Watford before moving on to Aston Villa, where he made a significant impact. His performances earned him a move to Manchester United in 2011, where he spent nine successful years. During his time at Old Trafford, Young won multiple trophies, including the Premier League, FA Cup, Europa League, and League Cup.
After leaving United, Young had a brief but memorable stint at Inter Milan, where he added a Serie A title to his collection in the 2020-21 season. He then returned to England to rejoin Aston Villa, later playing for Everton and Ipswich Town before hanging up his boots.
International Career
Young earned 39 caps for England, representing the Three Lions at Euro 2012 and the 2018 World Cup. His pace, versatility, and crossing ability made him a valuable asset for both club and country.
In a statement, Young expressed gratitude to all the clubs, teammates, and fans who supported him throughout his career. He also hinted at a potential future in coaching or punditry.
