Mikel Arteta Breaks Silence on Arsenal Injury Crisis

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has finally addressed the growing controversy surrounding his squad after an astonishing eleven players withdrew from international duty last week. The mass exodus has sparked intense scrutiny and criticism, particularly from England boss Thomas Tuchel, who labelled the situation as "suspicious".

International Withdrawals Spark Fury

The Gunners faced a barrage of questions after key stars like Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka spent merely a single day at the England camp before returning to North London. Noni Madueke added to the drama by sustaining an injury during England's 1-1 draw with Uruguay, though fortunately, his setback is not severe and won't keep him sidelined for weeks or months.

They were joined by a host of other Arsenal talents who pulled out of their respective national teams:

Tuchel's Suspicious Comments

England manager Thomas Tuchel did not hold back in his assessment, openly questioning the legitimacy of the withdrawals. "Everyone can do the math and it's a lot of players, of course," Tuchel stated. "During the situation, it looks a bit suspicious but I can only talk for our players. I still have 100 per cent trust in the honesty of Bukayo and Declan."

Tuchel emphasised that medical tests were conducted and he personally reviewed them, maintaining his faith in Rice and Saka's integrity. However, he conceded that the sheer volume of Arsenal players involved naturally raises eyebrows.

Arteta's Coy Response and Squad Update

In his pre-match press conference ahead of Arsenal's FA Cup quarter-final clash with Southampton, Arteta remained evasive. When pressed for details on the fitness of the returning players, he simply told reporters: "You will see."

On a more positive note, Arteta confirmed that Martin Odegaard and Jurrien Timber, both of whom missed last month's Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City, could be in contention for the Southampton match. However, the news was not as promising for Eberechi Eze and Piero Hincapie, who will definitely miss the crucial cup tie due to their injuries.

Defending Arsenal's Relationships

Arteta was quick to defend the club's rapport with national teams, particularly highlighting their strong communication with Thomas Tuchel. "We have very good relationships with most of the national teams," Arteta asserted. "Especially with Thomas and when you have to communicate the state of every player, that was clear what the conclusion was."

The Arsenal boss insisted that when a player is fit and available, they are eager to represent their country. "I think when a player is fit and available, they have to play. The players are desperate to play with the national team," he added, perhaps aiming to quell the rising tide of suspicion.

As Arsenal prepare for a pivotal FA Cup encounter, the spotlight remains firmly on their injury management and the integrity of these international withdrawals. With the Premier League title race heating up and a potential Treble on the line, Arteta faces a delicate balancing act between club commitments and international duties.
