Mikel Arteta hailed a 'unique' atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium after Arsenal beat Atletico Madrid 1-0 to reach the Champions League final for the first time in 20 years.
Bukayo Saka's first-half goal secured a 2-1 aggregate victory, setting up a final against Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain in Budapest on 30 May.
Arteta praised the home support, saying: 'The manner that we were received outside the stadium was special and unique. The atmosphere that our fans created, the energy – I have never felt that in this stadium.'
The tie was hard-fought, with Gabriel Magalhaes fortunate to avoid conceding a penalty after Giuliano Simeone went down under his challenge. VAR cleared the incident, and Arsenal held firm.
Arteta commended Atletico, saying: 'They are an incredible team, the way they compete. Diego Simeone has done an outstanding job there.' The defeat meant disappointment for Diego Simeone, who remains without a European trophy after 15 years at Atletico, while Antoine Griezmann's Champions League career appears to end as he heads to MLS.
