Mikel Arteta has said Arsenal expect "movements" in the transfer market in the next few weeks, speaking after a 4-1 pre-season friendly win over Girona on Saturday evening.
“Well, we are really active, trying to improve and evolve the team. That's clear. We expect to have movements in the next few weeks, obviously, because we want to get better like anybody else. And you can just see it. The transfer market and our opponents, what we are doing, we won't sit still. And we are very ambitious in what we want to do.”
A quiet summer so far
Arsenal's incomings so far are Illan Mesiler on a free transfer and Christos Tzolis for around £34million from Club Brugge, while Piero Hincapie's loan from Bayer Leverkusen has been made permanent. The Premier League champions are expected to be busy between now and Deadline Day at the beginning of September.
Guimaraes and Vinicius Junior linked
Newcastle captain Bruno Guimaraes is one name heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium. Reports have suggested a medical has been scheduled for the Brazilian as early as Monday, and there have been claims that Newcastle have accepted an £80m bid from Arsenal. However, sources on Tyneside insist there has been no direct contact between the clubs over the 28-year-old, who is due to join Newcastle's pre-season camp in La Manga on Sunday after an extended break following the World Cup.
Arsenal are also exploring a deal for Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior, who is currently in contract negotiations with the LaLiga giants.
Norgaard set for Everton medical
According to The Athletic, Arsenal are closing in on the sale of Christian Norgaard after just one season. The experienced midfielder is set to undergo a medical ahead of a proposed £7m move to Everton.
