Arsenal's Dowman red card appeal dismissed by FA

Arsenal have failed in their appeal against the red card shown to Max Dowman during Tuesday's Carabao Cup defeat at Fleetwood Town, meaning the young winger will serve a three-match suspension.

Dowman was sent off by referee Michael Salisbury in the second half after appearing to kick out at Fleetwood's Harrison Neal during a touchline altercation. The Gunners were beaten on penalties by their League Two hosts after the match finished 1-1.

Appeal Dismissed by Independent Commission

Arsenal challenged the decision, but on Thursday an FA spokesperson confirmed on social media that the appeal had been unsuccessful. The statement said the independent commission had "dismissed claims of wrongful dismissal and excessive punishment for Max Dowman... [who] will be suspended for three matches."

The commission's reasoning is set to be published "in due course".

Match Details and Aftermath

Fleetwood had taken a shock first-half lead through striker Aaron Loupalo-Bi. Viktor Gyokeres equalised for the Premier League champions, but Bruno Guimaraes missed the decisive penalty as Arsenal were eliminated.
