Arsenal's Bayern Draw Overshadowed by Saka Injury

Arsenal preserved their undefeated record in the Champions League this season with a hard-fought draw at the Allianz Arena, but the result was overshadowed by an early injury to Bukayo Saka.

Eze Steps In After Saka's Early Exit

Saka had been named in the starting side by Mikel Arteta but was forced off within the first few minutes with an apparent quad injury. He had attempted to play a pass outside the Bayern box when he immediately felt his quad and hit the deck. Reports suggest he pointed at it as he headed down the tunnel.

The England international was quickly replaced by Eberechi Eze, who had lost his place in the starting line-up to Noni Madueke after his winner at Nottingham Forest last weekend.

Arteta's Tactical Shift Pays Off

Despite the early setback, Arsenal took the lead through Eze. Alphonso Davies levelled the game before half-time, and Harry Kane fired Bayern ahead from the penalty spot in the 61st minute.

The hosts looked to be cruising to another win, but a beautiful attacking move from Arteta's side pegged them back as the game ended in a stalemate. The equaliser was a lovely team move, but it could only have been possible with the introduction of the big Swede, Viktor Gyokeres, who replaced Kai Havertz while Arsenal were trailing.

Gyokeres and Rice Combine for the Equaliser

Gyokeres was able to match Dayot Upamecano and Jonathan Tah physically, and he held the ball up for an onrushing Declan Rice. Rice smashed the ball past Manuel Neuer as the Gunners wheeled off to celebrate.

The draw extends Arsenal's undefeated run in the competition, though the focus will inevitably fall on the severity of Saka's injury and the team's reliance on the England winger.
