Arsenal XI vs Bayern: Madueke starts in Champions League

Noni Madueke has been handed a start for Arsenal against Bayern Munich in the Champions League tonight. The Gunners travel to Germany to face Vincent Kompany's side at the Allianz Arena, though the head coach may be absent due to an ongoing illness.

Two changes for the Gunners

Mikel Arteta has made two changes to the side that beat Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Jurrien Timber comes in at right-back, continuing to share minutes with Ben White, while Madueke replaces Eberechi Eze on the left wing.

Eze started against Forest but struggled and was replaced at half-time. Madueke came off the bench to score the winner and has looked bright in his appearances on that flank.

Midfield and forward decisions

In midfield, Myles Lewis-Skelly has to wait for his chance over Bruno Guimaraes, while Martin Zubimendi is available again and “will be involved” after a minor hamstring issue. Kai Havertz is chosen up front despite Viktor Gyokeres, who is yet to score for Arsenal this season, starting the previous Champions League matches this season.

Piero Hincapie remains out with an ankle issue, but Arteta suggested he could be in contention when Arsenal host Everton on Saturday. “If he is able to train the next few days he can be available for Everton, which is great news,” Arteta said.
