Arsenal ratings: Gyokeres stars in nervy Slavia Prague win

Arsenal survived a late goal to beat Slavia Prague 2-1 and continue their strong start in the Champions League. The win moves the Gunners up to third in the league-phase standings.

Noni Madueke opened the scoring after charging through on goal in behind, and Viktor Gyokeres, who assisted that opener, then got on the scoresheet himself with a wonderful curled finish. At that stage Arsenal were cruising, but they dropped off significantly in the second half and allowed Slavia to grow in confidence and get back into the game. Wiktor Nowak scored in the 90th minute as Slavia threatened a grandstand finish, but Arsenal did enough to hold on.

Standout Performances

Viktor Gyokeres earned a 9/10 rating for a sensational first-half showing. His link-up play was the best it has been for Arsenal, a massive step up in that regard. He provided the assist for Madueke and had so many nice flicks before getting his goal with a sublime curled finish. It was a statement performance.

Martin Zubimendi impressed on a rare start, earning an 8/10 for a top midfield display. He won all six of his duels and played with a nice zip to get Arsenal flowing. Gabriel also scored 8/10, rescuing Arsenal with two brilliant goal-line clearances in the space of a few seconds. Madueke was electric, with a ruthless finish to open the scoring, and he ran the Slavia defence ragged with his direct play.

Mixed Night for Others

David Raya was rated 7/10, being a bit too casual at times with the ball, though he did his best to preserve Arsenal's clean sheet with an outrageous save with his fingertips late in the match. Ben White looked close to his best in attack, flying forward to support Madueke, but was sloppier after the break. Declan Rice earned 7/10, with Slavia unable to live with his running power, though he looked exhausted as the second half went on.

Mikel Merino wasted two big chances in the first half, surprisingly lacking a clinical edge, but he was confident on the ball and combined nicely with Gyokeres for Arsenal's second. Ezri Konsa was booked for a rash challenge, while Eberechi Eze gave Vlcek nightmares, with the defender resorting to kicking him.

Substitutes' Impact

Among the substitutes, Martin Odegaard injected real energy into the team, while Cristhian Mosquera was too weak in stoppage time. Jurrien Timber was not great defending at the near post for Slavia's goal, and Max Dowman came on late with no rating.
