Newcastle United have been drawn against Qarabag in the Champions League play-off round, while the five other English clubs now know their potential last-16 opponents. Eddie Howe's side were the only Premier League team not to finish inside the top eight in the competition's first phase.
Despite a credible 1-1 draw away to Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, Newcastle missed out on automatic qualification. The Magpies will travel to Azerbaijan for the first leg before hosting Qarabag at St James' Park in the return fixture. Should they advance, Newcastle would face either Barcelona or Chelsea in the round of 16.
Arsenal had already secured their place in the last 16, and the draw confirmed they will meet the winner of Borussia Dortmund versus Atalanta or Olympiacos versus Bayer Leverkusen. Liverpool and Tottenham will face the winners of Galatasaray against Juventus or Club Brugge against Atletico Madrid, while Manchester City will play the winner of Benfica against Real Madrid or Bodo/Glimt against Inter Milan.
Real Madrid, who lost 4-2 at Benfica, dropped into the play-offs and were handed a tie against Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce. Paris Saint-Germain, the holders, will also need an extra round for a second successive season, facing Monaco on the opposite side of Newcastle's bracket. Inter Milan, finalists last year, were drawn against Bodo/Glimt.
The play-off second legs are scheduled for Tuesday 24 and Wednesday 25 February, with the winners progressing to the round of 16.
