Arsenal Reportedly Renew Interest in Julian Alvarez Following Gyokeres' Inconsistent Form
Arsenal Football Club are once again considering a move for Argentine forward Julian Alvarez, according to recent reports. The Gunners have maintained a long-standing admiration for the player, having previously evaluated a potential transfer during the summer window.
Gyokeres' Challenging Debut Season Prompts Reassessment
Instead of pursuing Alvarez last summer, Arsenal opted to secure the services of Swedish striker Viktor Gyokeres from Sporting Lisbon. However, Gyokeres has encountered significant difficulties adapting to the Premier League, managing to score only five league goals in his debut campaign at the Emirates Stadium.
This lack of consistent output has reportedly prompted manager Mikel Arteta to reconsider strengthening his attacking options. The club's interest in Alvarez has been reignited as they seek more reliable firepower upfront.
Arsenal's Strategic Connections and Alvarez's Contract Situation
Current sporting director Andrea Berta possesses strong connections to Atletico Madrid, having previously negotiated Alvarez's transfer from Manchester City to the Spanish capital. Berta maintains a close working relationship with the striker's agent, Fernando Hidalgo, which could facilitate discussions.
Alvarez's contract with Atletico Madrid includes a substantial €500 million (£433 million) release clause. However, reports suggest the Spanish club might be willing to entertain offers exceeding €100 million (£86.7 million) for the 25-year-old forward, who remains under contract until 2030.
Informal Enquiries and Player's Current Focus
Arsenal have already made informal enquiries to ascertain the feasibility of a potential deal later this year. When questioned about transfer speculation earlier this season, Alvarez emphasized his commitment to Atletico Madrid.
"I'm very focused on this season, on what lies ahead with Atletico Madrid," Alvarez stated. "I try to tune it out and think about myself, about continuing to grow as a player, and about winning."
Alvarez's Impressive Track Record and Arteta's Assessment
The Argentine international boasts an impressive scoring record, having netted 36 goals in 103 appearances for Manchester City before his move to Madrid, where he has added 40 goals in 85 outings.
Meanwhile, Arteta has offered his perspective on Gyokeres' struggles, suggesting multiple factors contribute to consistent performance at the highest level. "It's a lot of things that have to happen to consistently be able to produce those performances and numbers," the manager explained, highlighting the tactical flexibility within the squad.
As Arsenal prepare for their upcoming Premier League fixture against Manchester United, speculation continues to build regarding their summer transfer plans and potential reinforcements to their attacking lineup.
