Morgan Burtwistle, known online as Angry Ginge, grew up in Manchester idolising United legend Wayne Rooney. This fandom evolved into a genuine friendship, with Rooney joining Ginge's esports team, Girth and Turf, and the pair collaborating regularly on content.
Ginge's links to the club became official when he featured in Manchester United's promotional video for their 2024-2025 seasonal kit, appearing alongside actor Barry Keoghan and former captain Bryan Robson.
The streamer's ultimate dream came true in June of this year when he played at Old Trafford as part of the England squad for Soccer Aid. The event also featured stars like Louis Tomlinson and Bella Ramsey, with his friend Wayne Rooney also on the pitch. Ginge later called the experience a "dream come true" in a TikTok video.
A fiery feud with a former United star
However, not every encounter with a Manchester United icon has been positive. During the same Soccer Aid match, Ginge almost came to blows with former United striker Carlos Tevez.
The pair grappled fiercely over the ball in a heated moment. After the match, Ginge took to social media to show a cut, writing: "Cheers Tevez. T***."
He later revealed this animosity extended off the pitch, refusing to have Tevez sign his commemorative Soccer Aid shirt. He explained his decision bluntly: "The f***ing traitor Tevez ain't signing my f***ing shirt."
Rooney's role in the jungle journey
Ginge has credited his famous friend with encouraging his I'm A Celebrity adventure. He told The Mirror that Wayne Rooney said he "can’t wait" to watch and would be voting for Ginge to undertake the notorious bush tucker trials.
