Mirra Andreeva exploded with rage immediately after crashing out of Wimbledon on Wednesday, hurling her racket across Centre Court following a 4-6 7-5 6-4 defeat to former champion Barbora Krejcikova. The fifth seed, clearly frustrated with the result, tossed her racket near the umpire as the match concluded.
Andreeva's Frustration Boils Over
The 18-year-old Russian had been a strong contender in the tournament but struggled to contain her emotions after Krejcikova mounted a comeback. After the final ball had been played, Andreeva launched her racket in a visible display of anger, prompting murmurs from the crowd.
Krejcikova, who won Wimbledon in 2024, secured the victory in two hours and 11 minutes. The match featured six breaks of serve, with Andreeva winning 62% of her first-serve points but committing 37 unforced errors.
Wimbledon Meltdown
This is not the first time Andreeva has shown frustration on court; she was warned for racket abuse during her second-round match. However, the outburst on Centre Court was particularly dramatic. According to tennis analyst Tim Henman, "It's a shame to see such talent undone by emotion, but she's young and will learn."
Andreeva's defeat means the women's singles draw loses another high seed, following the early exits of Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka. Krejcikova will face 12th seed Madison Keys in the fourth round.
