An amputee football match in Buenos Aires, Argentina, descended into a violent brawl, with players caught on camera swinging crutches like swords. The clash erupted at the end of a tense penalty shootout, when a missed spot-kick prompted rivals to run into the penalty box and celebrate, goading the dejected opponent.
Brawl Erupts After Penalty Miss
Punches, kicks, and swinging crutches turned the pitch into a battlefield as the melee spiralled out of control. The match saw local side Los Teros de Córdoba host Uruguay's Rampla Juniors in a fiercely contested amateur bout between the South American rivals.
Earlier in the game, a sliding tackle on a grounded opponent had already triggered insults and an angry backlash. That flashpoint led to both captains being sent off as the match continued under a cloud of rising tension.
Club Condemns Violence
Throughout the contest, one side faced constant taunts and invitations to fight from the opposition, as reported by creatorzine.com. Rampla Juniors officials later condemned the violence in a strongly worded statement released on social media.
“We want to make something very clear: we didn't travel to Argentina to fight,” the statement said. They stressed they had travelled purely to play football after months of fundraising and sacrifice. In a statement, the club said they believe in the sport as a force for inclusion, respect and opportunity.
Investigation Demanded
They formally recorded the violence and demanded a serious investigation so that similar incidents don't happen again. The statement concluded: “Violence does not represent us. Football, inclusion, and camaraderie do.”
No official response has yet emerged from the Argentine side or tournament organisers.
