Ruben Amorim has urged Manchester United to avoid panic buying in January after Bruno Fernandes became the latest player to join the club's growing injury list. The United captain was forced off at half-time during the defeat at Aston Villa, clutching his left calf after an early tackle from Boubacar Kamara.
Amorim expects Fernandes to miss the Boxing Day clash with Newcastle and fears he may be sidelined for a while. Kobbie Mainoo is also out with a calf issue sustained in training, leaving the head coach with limited midfield options. Lisandro Martínez and Manuel Ugarte filled in during the second half at Villa Park.
Despite the mounting absences, Amorim stressed that the club must not rush into the transfer market. 'What we cannot do is to reach January and try to do everything in urgency and make mistakes,' he said. 'I'm not going to get with Jason and Omar and say: We need a lot of players. Because we have a plan.'
The head coach acknowledged the team is in a difficult moment but insisted they must find solutions from within. 'If we have to suffer, the club comes first. We have to deal with it,' Amorim added. Meanwhile, Aston Villa manager Unai Emery revealed he was unhappy with match-winner Morgan Rogers before his second goal, praising his aggression and attitude.
