Amorim Rejects Man Utd Exit Despite Sunderland Pressure

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has no intention of walking away from his role, despite mounting speculation over his future following a poor start to the season. The 40-year-old Portuguese is determined to turn things around at Old Trafford, with the club retaining faith in him for now.

United have won just two of their seven matches across all competitions this season, leaving them 14th in the Premier League with seven points from six games. A 3-1 defeat at Brentford last weekend intensified scrutiny on Amorim, but sources indicate that a loss to Sunderland on Saturday would not necessarily trigger his dismissal, provided the result is not severe.

According to NBC Sports journalist David Ornstein, United are expected to stick with Amorim for the time being, with tougher tests after the international break, including a trip to Liverpool. The club and squad are said to back the head coach, and financial considerations regarding a potential sacking are not a factor in the decision-making process.

If a change were eventually made, former England manager Gareth Southgate is not expected to be a candidate. Southgate, 55, has been out of work since resigning in July 2024.

Ahead of the Sunderland clash, Amorim acknowledged the difficulty of the match, praising the Black Cats' impressive start to life back in the Premier League. 'It's going to be a really tough match, they are doing really well,' he said in his pre-match press conference. 'They are confident and they know that we are going to be under pressure, and we need to be able to play with that.'
