Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the club will not be making any new signings during the January transfer window. Speaking ahead of Sunday's match against Leeds United, the Portuguese boss stated that there are no plans to alter the current squad.
“The transfer window is not going to change. We have no conversation to have any change in the squad. There is a process, there is an idea – that is going to continue,” Amorim said. He also acknowledged the team's position in the league, adding, “We are near places of the Champions League but we are also near eight teams behind us.”
United have had a mixed festive period, with one win, one draw and one defeat in their last three fixtures. After a 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in mid-December, they bounced back with a Boxing Day victory over Newcastle but were then held to a 1-1 draw by bottom side Wolves. Upcoming opponents include Leeds, Burnley, Brighton in the FA Cup, and consecutive matches against Manchester City and Arsenal.
Meanwhile, academy product Kobbie Mainoo has performed a U-turn and remains committed to resurrecting his United career. Despite tensions between his representatives and Amorim—including an incident in December 2025 when his half-brother wore a 'Free Kobbie Mainoo' T-shirt at Old Trafford—the 20-year-old midfielder has decided to stay. Amorim has firmly ruled out any departure, having already blocked a loan move last summer. Mainoo will hope to secure playing time as he recovers from injury, with the aim of earning a place in Thomas Tuchel's England squad for the summer's World Cup.
