Alex Jones, co-host of The One Show, has spoken publicly for the first time about the sexting scandal involving her former colleague Jermaine Jenas. In an interview on Jamie Laing's Great Company podcast, Jones revealed she was 'the last to know' about the inappropriate messages that led to Jenas' dismissal from the BBC.
Jenas, 42, was removed from his roles on The One Show and Match of the Day in 2024 after sending 'inappropriate' messages to female colleagues. He later apologised, stating the messages were 'between two consenting adults' and that he had done 'nothing illegal'. His wife, Ellie Penfold, subsequently announced their separation after 16 years of marriage.
Jones, 48, expressed admiration for the women who reported Jenas' behaviour, calling them 'brave'. She said: 'If it was my daughter, and she was at work in whatever industry and she felt uncomfortable, I would hope to God that I'd given her the tools to be able to speak up.'
Reflecting on her own experiences, Jones noted that while she had encountered uncomfortable situations in the 1990s and early 2000s, nothing had 'stuck with me' or made her 'shudder'. She added: 'I know the type of girl I was then, and I wouldn't have handled it.'
Jones and Jenas co-hosted The One Show from 2020 until his departure. The BBC has not commented further on the matter.
