Oscar Piastri Honoured With New Wasp Species Name

Australian Formula 1 star Oscar Piastri has expressed his delight after a newly discovered species of wasp was named after him. Researchers have confirmed the new breed, designated Gwesped Piastrii, was identified in Burmese amber found in Northern Myanmar.

Why the Wasp Was Named After Piastri

Scientists chose to honour the McLaren driver for his achievements in Formula 1, noting that the amber colour of the preserved wasp reminded them of the papaya hue associated with the McLaren team. The news has left the nine-time race winner thrilled.

“Buzzing about this,” Piastri said on his Instagram Story, sharing the announcement with his followers.
