A coronial inquest has begun examining the tragic circumstances surrounding the deaths of two highly experienced skydivers who collided mid-air during a routine formation jump in New South Wales.
The NSW Coroners Court heard how Stephen Hoare, 55, and Alex Welling, 35, both accomplished skydivers with thousands of jumps between them, were participating in a group formation skydive near Picton when the catastrophic incident occurred.

Counsel assisting the coroner revealed chilling details of the collision that saw both men's parachutes become entangled after they struck each other at high velocity during the manoeuvre. Despite emergency procedures being attempted, both divers fell to their deaths in what witnesses described as a 'horrific and unstoppable' sequence of events.
