Aaron Ramsey has taken on his first full-time managerial job at Oxford United, just over a year after his second spell at Cardiff City ended. The 35-year-old former Wales midfielder, who retired from playing, took caretaker charge at Cardiff at the tail end of the 2024/25 season before stepping into the dugout at Oxford.
New Role at Oxford
Oxford United, relegated from the Championship last season, appointed Ramsey to replace Matt Bloomfield, who was relieved of his duties in June. Ramsey said: “From my discussions with the club, I can sense the ambition and desire for success, which gives me great excitement about this opportunity. This is a moment I have been preparing for over many years.”
He added: “I’ve played under some of the best managers in the game and experienced high-pressure environments throughout my career. I want to use what I’ve learnt to bring a culture of high standards, professionalism and work ethic to this talented group of players.”
Ramsey took charge of his first competitive game on August 8, with Oxford facing Leyton Orient in the first round of the Carabao Cup. They lost that match but have a chance to bounce back at home to MK Dons this weekend.
Mexico Nightmare
After leaving Cardiff for a second time in the summer of 2025, Ramsey moved to Mexico to sign for Pumas. However, his time with the Mexico City club was memorable for the wrong reasons. He played just six times in Liga MX, scoring once, struggled with injuries, and ultimately saw his contract torn up early, claiming the decision came as a surprise.
During their time in Mexico, Ramsey and his wife Colleen faced a heartbreaking loss when their pet dog Halo went missing. Ramsey shared a message from Colleen in which the couple conceded they had to accept Halo was likely never coming back.
Net Worth
Ramsey enjoyed some big-money contracts during his playing career. Celebrity Net Worth reports his net worth as USD$25m (£18.5m). That sum owes a fair amount to the deal he negotiated when moving from Arsenal to Juventus. A pre-contract agreement with the Italian club brought a contract reportedly worth more than £400,000 per week, a record for a British footballer.
He also had a number of investments and businesses outside football. Companies House lists him as a current director of Bespoke Land (Southwales) Ltd, a Cardiff-based company involved in the development of building projects, while he was also previously listed as a director of real estate company Off Market Luxury Properties Limited.
