The case centres on her refusal to submit to a drug test in December, an incident she has linked to severe mental and physical stress.

The ITIA confirmed that Vondrousova is accused of refusing a test when a doping control officer arrived at her home late in the evening. According to agency rules, evading or refusing sample collection without compelling justification constitutes an anti-doping violation. If found guilty, the 26-year-old player could face a suspension of up to four years, though she has not taken a provisional suspension and remains eligible to compete for now.
Vondrousova's Mental Health Explanation
In a candid Instagram post released on Friday afternoon, Vondrousova opened up about the pressures that led to the incident. She described feeling "scared" when the officer arrived at 8:15 pm, demanding an immediate test, and cited months of injury, constant pressure, and sleep issues that left her exhausted. Vondrousova emphasised that years of hateful messages and threats had eroded her sense of safety, causing her to react out of fear rather than an attempt to avoid testing.
Investigation and Response
An ITIA spokesman acknowledged Vondrousova's comments, confirming that an investigation is underway and she has been charged with refusing a test. The agency declined to comment further on specifics at this stage. Vondrousova, ranked 46th in the world and a silver medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, has asserted she is working to clear her name and had no intention of evading testing.
Recent Tournament Absences
Vondrousova has not competed since the Adelaide International in January, withdrawing from the Australian Open due to a shoulder injury. In December, she had previously described the late-night tester visit as a "serious intrusion" into her privacy, highlighting the timing and circumstances as problematic.
