Thomas Tuchel gave a blunt response when asked whether Anthony Gordon's goal showed England's template for success after the 3-2 Nations League defeat to Spain at Wembley on Saturday evening.
The Three Lions opened their Nations League campaign with a narrow loss, having led 2-1 at one stage. Marc Guehi was dispossessed by Lamine Yamal two minutes in, with the Ballon d'Or nominee scoring past James Trafford from close range.
Gordon and Kane strike before Spain fight back
Gordon equalised with a swift counter-attack around 10 minutes before half-time. Harry Kane then put England ahead moments later when his header deflected off Marc Cucurella's thigh and past Joan Garcia.
Kane had a chance to extend the lead to 3-1 from the penalty spot shortly after the break but slipped on the Wembley turf, double-striking the ball and conceding a free-kick to Spain. Goals from Alex Baena and Mikel Oyarzabal turned the match around as the world champions took all three points.
Tuchel's blunt assessment on ITV
Speaking live on ITV after the match, Tuchel was asked whether Gordon's goal encapsulated the England template to success. The head coach quickly dismissed the suggestion.
He said: "No, the Anthony Gordon goal was a counter-attack," with a wry smile, adding: "The ball went in...a counter-attack."
