Rangers winger Minsu Kim has paid an emotional tribute to his grandmother after making his international debut for South Korea. The 20-year-old won his first cap as a second-half substitute as South Korea recorded a 3-0 win against Ecuador.
Emotional tribute after debut
After his appearance in the Suwon clash, Kim posted to Instagram: "Grandma, although I'm very late I have kept my promise. I love you."
Kim joined the Glasgow giants from Girona last month and has emerged as a key player for Derek McInnes, with Rangers heading into the international break with a 1-0 league win over Celtic.
Dream come true
Kim said: "I was more nervous and trembling than in any game in my life because I was representing the Republic of Korea."
"It was a dream come true because it was a situation I had always wished for and so even though it was short, it felt wonderful."
Kim could also feature in South Korea's three other friendlies in the international break against Uruguay, Venezuela and Uzbekistan.
Communication with the new manager
"I tried my best to get along well with my teammates and be of help to the team. I was able to communicate with our new manager Robert Moreno in Spanish," Kim said.
"He explained the team's tactics in detail, so I understood them well and was able to make a good debut, I think. He taught me how to be effective as a winger."
"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous before my debut. I was really nervous, but I still tried to give the team everything I could. I also tried to enjoy the moment."
"This is only the beginning. I know how much it means to represent the national team, so I want to keep working hard and prove that I deserve to be here. Now that I've made my debut in this dreamlike place, I'll work even harder so I can stay here as long as possible."
