Man City told Donnarumma verdict won't change anything, agent says

Gianluigi Donnarumma's agent, Enzo Raiola, has revealed what Manchester City have told their players after the club was found guilty of breaching Premier League financial regulations.

The eight-time Premier League champions were found guilty by an independent commission of 114 charges after an investigation into their finances between 2009 and 2018. They were found guilty of all financial breaches and the majority of charges for not co-operating with the investigation. City maintain their innocence and have since appealed against the verdict, while possible sanctions will be decided by the independent commission at a further hearing.

Assurances given to Donnarumma

Enzo Maresca's side will return to club action for the first time since the guilty verdict was made public when they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool this Sunday (4.30pm kick-off). They are almost certain to face ongoing backlash from all opposing fanbases moving forward following the verdict, and it has been mooted they could even face relegation if the guilty verdict is upheld as the footballing world debate how the club should be punished.

Yet despite the ongoing furore, Raiola has insisted 'all is calm' at the Etihad and that his client has been offered assurances by the club.

“Could the chaos at Manchester City change anything? No, it won’t change a thing for us or for Gigio,” he told Il Napolista. “Stories pop up from time to time. The club has spoken to Gigio, and everyone is calm. There are important matches coming up against Liverpool and PSG, and the sporting justice process will take its course. But Gigio has received assurances from Manchester City.”

Club appeal lodged

City confirmed they had lodged an appeal last week as they claimed they had 'a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence' as they disputed the guilty verdict.

An official club statement read: “Manchester City Football Club can confirm that at 7pm on Thursday 1st October 2026 the Club lodged its comprehensive Appeal against the opinion of the Premier League Commission, in relation to the Premier League disciplinary matter. The Club’s firm position is that, on multiple grounds, the opinion contains clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe. The Club is innocent of the accusations made by the Premier League and a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence exists in support of all of its positions, relating to this case. We will continue to respect due process and are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all proceedings are complete.”
