Man City player ratings vs PSG: Haaland stars in 4-2 defeat

Manchester City suffered a 4-2 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, marking Enzo Maresca's first loss as manager. The reigning Champions League winners led 3-0 at half-time and held off a second-half City comeback to secure a significant win.

First-half struggles and second-half surge

With Pep Guardiola watching on for the first time since leaving in the summer, City started reasonably but soon found themselves three goals down. A triple substitution at half-time sparked a revival, with Erling Haaland scoring twice.

City missed several chances to add more goals and conceded again when Gianluigi Donnarumma made a save only to see the ball spin back past him. The Blues face Ipswich at home in the Premier League on Saturday looking to return to winning ways.

Player ratings from the Manchester Evening News

Donnarumma: Done by Doue for the opening goal and then saw Akliouche's effort spin horribly past him but did save a penalty. 5

Khusanov: Much better at centre-back in the second half than he was at right-back in the first. 5

Dias: Part of a defence that self-destructed in the first half and was lucky not to concede more. 4

Guehi: Looked badly exposed as PSG were slicing through with ease, although he grew into the game. 5

Gvardiol: Such a threat going forward and stood up to help City get back into the game. 6

Anderson: Absolutely brilliant in the second half, having initially struggled. 7

Fernandez: Like Anderson, he was below par until he was suddenly everywhere and will feel he should have scored. 7

Cherki: Didn't stop trying to be creative in the final third but also made some poor decisions further back. 5

Semenyo: His running caused PSG plenty of problems but he was far from clinical and offside too often. 5

Doku: Marked out of the game whenever he got on the ball and taken off at half-time. 4

Haaland: Two goals to lead the fightback, he will feel he could have had more but went close on a number of occasions. 8

Substitutes' impact

Nunes (for Dias, 46): Another game where the team were better with him on the pitch, although he did give the penalty away. 6

Bouaddi (for Cherki, 46): Very positive from the moment he came on and he kept scooping up and recycling the ball. 7

Ndiaye (for Doku, 46): Caused problems from the moment he came on with a brilliant display. 8

O'Reilly (for Fernandez, 90): No time.

Not used: Rulli, Bettinelli, Ait-Nouri, Lewis, Reis, Kovacic, Allan, Foden.
