Fabinho has said he is "excited" after reuniting with Mohamed Salah at Trabzonspor. The former Liverpool midfielder has joined the Turkish club, where Salah moved on a free transfer after leaving Liverpool this summer.
Salah scores twice in Trabzonspor win
Salah scored twice in a 2-1 win against Istanbul Basaksehir, and was narrowly denied a hat-trick. The Egyptian's arrival in north-east Turkey has been followed by Fabinho's move from Saudi Arabian side Al-Ittihad, where the Brazilian spent three years.
After joining the club, Fabinho posted on Instagram a picture of himself in the purple and blue kit, writing: "A new chapter on my life. Very excited for what’s coming. Let’s do it."
Liverpool success together
During their time together at Anfield, Fabinho and Salah won the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and the Club World Cup. Liverpool signed Fabinho from Monaco in the summer of 2018 for £39 million, and he made 2019 appearances for the club, scoring 11 goals and providing 11 assists.
In a 2025 interview with The Guardian, Fabinho said he did not want to leave Liverpool: "I didn’t want to leave the club and go to any other club in Europe. I thought it was the best place in the world to play, to keep developing as a player. I wanted my legacy and my history at the club to grow even more but our last season was very gruelling, tiring."
He added: "We didn’t do well and failed to qualify for the Champions League. I lost my position as a starter for a few games, but that happens. I came back for the following season, even though the previous one hadn’t been good, with a very good mentality and wanting to fight for the Premier League title again."
Fabinho explained that Al-Ittihad made an offer for him before the season started, and the Liverpool directors said it was good for the club and for him. He said: "I was afraid and decided to wait to see what [the coaching staff] would say. I thought I was an important player and that they would refuse any offer, but I realised that the club was open to selling me."
