England player ratings vs Norway: Bellingham seals semi-final

Jude Bellingham scored his sixth and seventh goals of the World Cup to fire England into the semi-finals with a 2-1 extra-time victory over Norway in Miami. The Real Madrid midfielder's brace rescued the Three Lions after Andreas Schjelderup's fluke cross gave Norway a first-half lead.

Match Summary

Norway took a shock lead in the 36th minute when Schjelderup's intended cross looped over Jordan Pickford and went in off the inside of the post. England equalised before half-time through Bellingham, who controlled Anthony Gordon's pass and fired into the far bottom corner. Harry Kane had a goal disallowed for offside, while Torbjorn Heggem's effort was ruled out for an Erling Haaland foul on Elliot Anderson.

Neither side could find a winner in normal time, but Bellingham struck again in extra time, reacting quickest to Morgan Rogers' saved shot to make it 2-1. England held on to reach only their fourth World Cup semi-final, after 1966, 1990 and 2018. They will face either Argentina or Switzerland.

Player Ratings

Jordan Pickford - 6
Quick off his line to deny Haaland after John Stones' mistake, and saved well from Haaland's header. But could have done better for the goal, appearing to pull his arm away. Also saved from Martin Odegaard and Haaland.

Ezri Konsa - 6
Gave Schjelderup too much space for the goal. Excellent defending to head clear and deny Antonio Nusa in the same attack, then prevented Sander Berge from scoring from a corner. Subbed off late when exhausted.

John Stones - 6
Lucky Pickford bailed him out after he was caught in possession by Berge. Defended well against Haaland and Alexander Sorloth.

Marc Guehi - 6
Solid defensively and played progressive passes from the back to launch attacks.

Nico O'Reilly - 7
Drifted inside in an inverted role and made crucial defensive contributions, including a block on Sorloth when Norway led 1-0 and a tackle on Nusa. Subbed before extra time.

Elliot Anderson - 8
Rarely misplaced a pass and drove forward in the buildup to the equaliser. Fouled by Haaland before Heggem's disallowed goal. Excellent in extra time.

Declan Rice - 4
Tidy on the ball but lacked sharpness and struggled with set-pieces. Withdrawn at half-time; his fitness is a concern ahead of the semi-final.

Noni Madueke - 4
Ineffective and replaced by Bukayo Saka at half-time. England need more from him with Saka not fully fit.

Jude Bellingham - 9
The hero with a stunning equaliser and a clever winner. Three perfect touches before slotting low past Orjan Nyland. Magnificent pass to Kane for the disallowed goal. Gambled and scored the rebound for 2-1. Six goals at a World Cup from midfield.

Anthony Gordon - 7
Provided his fourth assist of the tournament with a great ball across the defence for Bellingham. Delivered a threatening cross that Kane couldn't control. Subbed off.

Harry Kane - 6
Complained about a foul before Norway's goal, but the referee's decision was correct. Had a goal ruled out for offside after a fine finish. Worked hard defensively.

Bukayo Saka (for Rice, 46') - 7
Took time to settle but created space and put a dangerous ball across the six-yard box. Twice denied a third goal in extra time.

Eberechi Eze (for Madueke, 46') - 5
Had a free-kick deflected over but was caught napping when Berge broke away.

Reece James (for Gordon, 70') - 5
Moved into midfield to allow Bellingham to drop to No.10, then shifted to right-back after Konsa's exit.

Djed Spence (for O'Reilly, 86') - 7
Brought on at left-back against Oscar Bobb. Almost scored a deflected winner after a 60-yard sprint. Had a penalty claim overruled by VAR. Denied a goal by Nyland and made a crucial late tackle.

Played deeper than usual and forced the save that led to Bellingham's winner.
