British IndyCar star Jack Harvey reveals cancer diagnosis

British IndyCar driver Jack Harvey has announced he has been diagnosed with cancer. The 33-year-old revealed the news in a defiant statement posted on social media on Tuesday.

Harvey's defiant statement

In the post, Harvey said: "Life has delivered a new fight to my doorstep. I have recently been diagnosed with cancer. My entire career has been about fighting for what’s next."

He continued: "The next opportunity. The next chance to prove myself. The next time I could get back in the car and show what I’m capable of. But through all of it, I’ve never stopped believing that there was something worth fighting for."

Commitment to 2027 season

Harvey remains determined to compete in next year's Indianapolis 500, declaring: "My goals for 2027 have not changed," before outlining his determination to be on the start line for next season's opener.

He added: "I am receiving excellent care and support from the team around me, my family, friends, DRR, FOX, IndyCar, and many more. I’ve never backed away from a challenge in my life and this circumstance is no different. So… Let’s fight."

Support from fellow drivers

Well-wishes have been sent in the comments section of his post. Former F1 driver Nyck De Vries replied: "My karting hero! Always a fighter, just another race, let’s go!"

Former IndyCar driver James Hinchcliffe said: "Imagine the movie they’re gunna (sic) make about your 500 win after this." Mick Schumacher responded: "We’re all with you! You got this!" Fellow driver Conor Daly replied: "We’re with you brother, you got this." Chip Ganassi Racing added: "Sending all of our support."

Harvey made his IndyCar debut in 2017, with his best overall finish coming in 2021, when he placed 13th. Before making it to IndyCar, he was the British Formula 3 champion in 2012.
