A British cyclist has died on the Spanish holiday island of Menorca after being hit from behind by a car driven by another British national, according to local reports. The incident occurred around 11am on Sunday in Sant Lluis, on the south-east tip of the Balearic island.
The 47-year-old victim, who has not been named, was cycling from the fishing village of Alcaufar to Sant Lluis when the collision happened. The driver of the vehicle allegedly failed a breath test after the crash.
Spanish Civil Guard officers attended the scene and will submit a report to an investigating magistrate who is leading the probe into the tragedy. It was not immediately clear if the driver had been arrested or was being held in custody.
The death has shocked the local community, as Menorca is a popular destination for British tourists and cyclists. The investigation is ongoing.
