The first day of the fifth Test between England and India at The Oval was heavily disrupted by rain and thunderstorms. England lead the series 2-1, with India needing a win to draw the series.
India reached 72-2 from 23 overs under floodlights before rain forced an early lunch. Play resumed at 3pm, but after India captain Shubman Gill was run out, rain stopped play again half an hour later. India finished the day on 204-6.
Thursday's rain fell as forecast, but clear skies in the late afternoon allowed 64 overs of play. Friday may see showers around late morning and lunchtime, with clearer conditions later. Saturday is expected to be the best day, with sunny spells.
Sunday's forecast is poor, with heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in the morning and early afternoon. Monday may also see rain in the late afternoon, so organisers will need to make the most of early sunny spells to secure a result.
