The summer transfer window is heading for a lively finish as Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham and Liverpool all push for further signings before the deadline. Arsenal continue to chase a deal for Julian Alvarez, who is reportedly open to a Premier League return, while Manchester United are set to announce the signing of Carlos Baleba and have received a boost over Alejandro Balde.
Arsenal medical and young additions
Igor Tyjon has completed a medical at Arsenal. The Gunners agreed a deal with Blackburn late last week for the England Under-18s striker that could be worth up to £3m. Tyjon has passed his medical and penned a contract in north London.
His signing is expected to be closely followed by that of young Manchester United duo James Scanlon and Habeeb Ogunneye. Arsenal are also believed to have made a pre-contract offer to sign Georgian U21 attacker Andria Bartishvili, who has been dubbed the 'next Khvicha Kvaratskhelia'.
Manchester United boost and Baleba medical
Barcelona boss Hansi Flick says he is planning to hold talks with Alejandro Balde today. The left-back has been linked with a move to Manchester United, though Flick insists he has not made a transfer decision.
"I have NOT told Alejandro Balde to leave," Flick told reporters. "I spoke with him this morning, I told him to think about it and that we'll talk again tomorrow."
Carlos Baleba could be announced as a Manchester United player on Monday. According to Sky Sports, the midfielder has passed his medical and has signed a five-year contract with an option to extend until 2032. United are now finalising the paperwork on a £70m deal with Brighton.
Alvarez twist at Atletico Madrid
Julian Alvarez was whistled by Atletico Madrid supporters on his return to action against Villarreal, as talk of a move to Arsenal refuses to go away. After being omitted from the midweek win over newly-promoted Malaga to build fitness following a post-World Cup final break, the Argentina international was named in Diego Simeone's matchday squad at the Metropolitano Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The striker was booed by the home fans before kick-off and once again upon being introduced to proceedings just after the hour mark as ten-man Atletico were held to a 2-2 draw. Following the final whistle, Alvarez appeared to head straight down the tunnel instead of going over to supporters with his team-mates and had a scarf thrown in his direction. Discussing the situation in the post-match press conference, Simeone revealed it was the club's decision for Alvarez to not acknowledge the fans.
Liverpool and Tottenham updates
Liverpool remain in talks over Bradley Barcola and Ibrahim Mbaye as they plot a third bid for Yankuba Minteh, having made a shock Endrick enquiry. Daniel Sturridge has suggested that Brighton's Yankuba Minteh would be a better fit than Barcola due to the existing options already at the club.
"We're looking at the reports and it's saying 'left-winger' for me you can play [Cody] Gakpo, you've got [Florian] Wirtz and [Rio] Ngumoha," Sturridge said on Sky Sports. "If I'm buying a winger at Liverpool, I'm rather go right-wing because I've got options on the left. I'm not sure about bringing in another left-winger, personally."
Tottenham have agreed a deal for Omar Marmoush to follow Savinho from Manchester City. Marmoush and Savinho are on course to make their Tottenham debuts against Charlton or Newcastle next week. Spurs host their London rivals in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night and then welcome the Magpies to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday, August 29, for their first home league game of the new season, looking to bounce back from the 3-0 loss to Brentford.
Xabi Alonso says Chelsea will not rush into a decision about Mykhailo Mudryk's future at the club. Mudryk is expected to leave Chelsea on loan before the end of the transfer window, with interest from several clubs in the Premier League and Europe. The Blues are in talks with Leeds United over a deal, but rejected the Whites' first offer as it was well below the terms they are prepared to accept.
Manchester City have agreed a deal with Lille for Ayyoub Bouaddi. It has been widely reported that the deal is worth up to £86m (€100m). Man City are paying a fixed fee of £81.3m plus £4.3m in add-ons, meaning Bouaddi is set to become the most expensive teenage signing in Premier League history, surpassing the £58.9m Manchester United paid Lille for Leny Yoro in 2024.
