An Australian cricket fan has praised the kindness of an England supporter after being offered seats in the shade during the third Ashes Test in Adelaide. The temperature soared to 40°C, and the man, who was wearing an Adelaide cricket cap, was forced to abandon his seat due to a heat-triggered vertigo attack.
Sitting by the exit to recover, he was approached by a member of the Barmy Army, England's travelling fan group. The Englishman, visiting Australia with his son and a friend, had two spare seats in the shade and offered them to the Australian and his own son.
The Australian gratefully accepted, and the two families spent the rest of the day together, buying each other beers and striking up a friendship. He noted that the English fan helped someone from the opposition despite the intense rivalry between the two nations.
Thanks to the gesture, the Australian avoided leaving early and witnessed Travis Head's century in a memorable match. 'What a wonderful gesture from a sworn supporter of our sporting rivals,' he said.
