Siena Lacrosse Coach Liam Gleason Dies Aged 41

The Siena College community is in mourning following the sudden death of its much-loved men's lacrosse head coach, Liam Gleason. The 41-year-old married father of three passed away on 3 December 2025 at Albany Medical Center, three days after suffering a traumatic brain injury from a fall at his home.

A Community United in Grief

News of Coach Gleason's passing has sent shockwaves through the university and the wider sports community. Siena President Chuck Seifert captured the collective heartbreak in a poignant statement, describing the loss as "a sudden, senseless loss [that] carries a kind of pain that defies understanding." He added, "It's hard to imagine anyone more universally loved and admired than Liam. Our community was blessed by Coach Gleason's life."

The depth of affection for Gleason was vividly illustrated by his players, who lined the hospital hallway in a final, respectful tribute as he was taken for organ donation—a cause he was deeply passionate about.

An Extraordinary Legacy and Family

Liam Gleason, a 6'5" former standout player at the University at Albany, dedicated his career to Siena. He first joined as an assistant coach in 2008, returned to his alma mater for a head-coaching role in 2010, and had been the Saints' head coach since 2018.

He leaves behind his wife, former college football star Jaclyn, and their three children: daughter Kennedy and sons Penn and Tate. A GoFundMe page set up to support the family spoke volumes about his character, stating: "Liam is the best father, husband, brother, son, brother-in-law, uncle, coach, and friend. His heart is as big as his 6'5 frame, and the love he gives to those around him is immeasurable."

Outpouring of Support and Final Acts

In a remarkable show of support, the fundraising campaign launched prior to his death had already raised more than $500,000 to assist with medical costs and the family's future financial needs. Following his passing, the organiser updated the page, thanking donors and confirming Gleason's final act of generosity. "Liam was passionate about being an organ donor and will be giving life to others through the donation of his organs," the update read.

A memorial service to celebrate Liam Gleason's life will be held on Saturday at Siena's UHY Center. The college and the sport of lacrosse have lost a towering figure, remembered not just for his coaching, but for his immense capacity for love and his lasting impact on everyone he knew.
